Callum Beattie (Im back!)

It’s my first blog post back for FIVE YEARS. I don’t even know what happened - lockdown ended and I started just trying to make up for lost time and for a bit, I preferred sitting in a pub with people (fair enough?) . Anyway, I am back and feeling quite motivated actually - I have a few photography project ideas floating about that i’m trying to fine-tune in my head which is exciting! I was trying to figure out what to do for my first post back and thought it would be cool to update with a really fun and cool shoot I did at one of Callum Beattie’s gigs at McArts in Galashiels. In August 2023 I photographed Callum Beattie at McArts in Galashiels. I felt incredibly lucky to have gotten the opportunity to do this as it came about from a message on Instagram. I’ve had a tactic of messaging quite a lot of bands and artists on Instagram and offering free work in exchange for experience and exposure and I’ve found that this works in about 1 in every 10 messages! (to a certain point). Callum Beattie was one of these messages and it felt like a shot in the dark as he would be the most household name I have shot for so far.

After listening to a really lovely voicenote from him confirming my request - I honestly smashed it. I am really proud of these images and I was the most confident I have ever been in this kind of setting as a photographer. I got to speak to another photographer who was working for a publication who was lovely and recommended the best places to shoot in the venue as well as telling me more about how they get the work that they do. Overall this was such a positive and productive experience and made me realise how much I enjoy this type of photography. Im going to show some of my favourites below (and above).
